What is AVID

AVID is a nationally recognized program designed to help bright, motivated students in their completion of college-prep coursework while in high school, in hopes that these students will be able to gain acceptance to 4-year colleges or universities directly from high school.

What we do

Work with students as a bridge between high school and college. We provide the following services as a high school program/class:

College field trips each semester
Develop a Four year academic planning to best prepare for college applications
Participate in community Service and leadership opportunities on and off campus
Scholarship opportunities only available through AVID and other partners. Last year AVID senior class 2024 received over $850,000 from scholarships and grants for their school they were attending

Who is eligible

AVID is open to any San Juan Hills student who wants to succeed at San Juan Hills! Most likely….if you maintained A’s, B’s, and C’s throughout middle school and are passing your current high school classes. The minimum GPA for an incoming freshman to maintain is a 2.5. Students in this program have a B or C average and are not discipline issues. They want to be successful! AVID students typically need assistance with organizational, planning and study skills in order to reach their full potentials. Students may be among the first in their families to attend college, although this is certainly not always the case!

Students enrolled in this class will receive elective credits and would be in this class in lieu of CCP or Geography.
