National Honor Society (NHS)

WELCOME TO NHS
The National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the nation's premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.  These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

THREE STRIKES AND YOU'RE OUT!

THREE STRIKES AND YOU'RE OUT!

Hello NHS Members!

As a member of the SJHHS Chapter of NHS, a  nationally renowned honor society, I agree to be a role model of  leadership, scholarship, service and character. This year, I understand the rules listed below and that failure to comply with these rules will result in consequences (removal from NHS) for misconduct.

  • I must check our NHS Canvas classroom weekly  where I will receive notifications regarding Chapter volunteer hours, Chapter meetings, and Assignments.
  • I must attend all Chapter Meetings which will occur one Thursday of each month.See Canvas Calendar for details.  I understand that illness/injury, sport or extracurricular pre planned events, or a college visit on or off campus are the only "Excused" absences allowed by NHS.  If I am unable to attend, I will contact the Vice President at Cameron Golba through Canvas.
  • I must complete my required tutoring, service, and chapter volunteer hours each semester. Failure to complete hours by the end of the school year will result in dismissal from SJHHS NHS. I understand that Seniors must complete their hours prior to Senior Awards night.
  • I must be a role model of Academic Integrity on campus.  Cheating and any issues with Academic Integrity and a subsequent referral violates our strict charter policy of Academic Integrity and will result in immediate dismissal.
  • If I cannot attend an event for which I signed up to volunteer, I must take my name off the sign up form or the tutoring chart within 24 hours of the event OR find a replacement so that my position is filled.  No-shows are not tolerated and a strike will result.
  • I am allowed 2 strikes in a year.  Upon the 3rd strike, I know that I will be contacted by the NHS Officers and Advisor for a meeting and possibly be dismissed from NHS.
  • Seniors- I understand that to receive a stole and/ or cord, I must be in good standing. To receive a stole I have been an active member for 2 years  and to receive a cord I must be an active member for at least 1 year.

Besides receiving three strikes, you will be automatically dismissed from the club if you are caught cheating or you do not complete hours for two consecutive semesters.

Please be responsible and honest. It is an honor to be a part of the NHS. Do your best to live up to what the club represents.
